In the mid-seventies, I watched the BBC’s ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris in dialogue with John Lennon in Manhattan and it felt like John was talking to me directly when he teased, ‘Hello England, keep your chin up. We’ll meet again’. Above all, I loved his style, cheeky genius and his total ease with confessions like ‘I’ve always been a little, you know, loose …’ John also talked about Elvis Presley never having stepped into England. Made no difference he said to Bob, England still fell for Elvis’ music and adored him. They didn’t have to see Elvis, they felt him. John Lennon too was that and more for me at the time.
